Khurais field development
The commencement of production at Khurais marked the completion of the largest integrated oil project in history.
Khurais began production in June 2009, adding 1.2 million bpd of Arabian light crude oil production capacity, 320 million scfd of gas dehydration, and 80,000 bpd of NGL production. This makes Khurais the largest integrated oil project in company history and the biggest project of its kind ever completed in the industry overall.
To support production increases here and in other fields, the development of Khurais also included the expansion of Southern Area seawater injection capacity by 4.5 million bpd.
The Khurais facility also includes infrastructure developments such as an air strip, residential facilities for up to 1,000 people, and an industrial complex to handle facility maintenance.
Shaybah field expansion
The Shayba Field Expansion Project increased production of Arabian extra-light crude oil by 50 percent.
The Shaybah expansion program came on-stream in the summer of 2009. The project increased Arabian extra-light crude oil production capacity 50 percent, from 500,000 bpd to 750,000 bpd. The facility includes a gas-oil separation plant (GOSP), gas compression and injection facilities, and a pipeline stretching 217 km.
